save yourself...

let me explain:
at first, it is like swimming in the sea
you swim away from the shore until the
land has disappeared.
you can't remember how long you've been
swimming for
but you are tired - exhausted.
your limbs are becoming weaker
and what were once soft turquoise peaks
are now phantom arms
tossing you violently about
trying to pull you under.

this is the point where you begin to drown
except this is also where the metaphor
must end
because in life you cannot rely on a
search party coming to rescue you
or a coincidentally passing boat.

you have to save yourself.
