sticks and stones...

Sticks and stones may break your bones
But words will hit you so hard
And break you into so many pieces
You’ll forget what you looked like whole.
Sticks and stones may break your bones
But words will leave you wondering
How deep you’d have to stab yourself with a stick
Or how hard you’d have to hit your head with a stone
To die.
Stick and stones may break your bones
But they will heal in given time.
A doctor will put a cast on your body
You’ll get “get well” cards
And sympathy smiles
And the bone will mend itself
And soon you’ll forget about the injury.
But theres no cure for words.
Because no one will see the injury at first.
But you’ll be able to feel the way they slowly start to eat away at your insides
Like ladybugs on roses
They will slowly kill the garden your mother planted when you were growing inside of her.
No one will notice until they find an empty bottle
or until you are swimming in a bathtub of red.
The doctor might be able to empty your stomach
or fix your wrists
But no matter how hard he tries
He’ll never be able to stitch up your heart.
You wont get any cards
Or receive any flowers
Instead you’ll get looks and whispers that scream
“Attention whore!”
You’ll get countless of psychiatrist
And a rainbow of prescriptions
But none of them will ever truly heal you.
And the scars might fade away some day
But you’ll never forget the injury.
You’ll never forget the insults from the 3rd grade
Or last week at work.
You’ll never forger the way peoples words
Will leave you gasping for air
Because words feel like a punch to the stomach
That you can never quite recover from.
Sticks and stones may break your bones
But words will never harm you
They will DESTROY you.
